U.S:84 Lumber closing seven stores
In an ongoing effort to respond to the difficulties in the construction industry, Washington County-based home building materials company 84 Lumber has closed another seven stores, the company announced this week. None of the stores is in
Company spokesman Jeff Nobers said all but one of the stores were older stores, with small footprints, in markets, "that have either matured with minimal housing starts, or that can be consolidated into other existing stores," which would make 84 Lumber's overall market presence stronger.
"In each case these stores have lost money for the past few years and upon our internal reviews are either not in markets that would become profitable even with continuing recovery, or in markets where consolidation makes sound business sense," Nobers added.
The stores to be closed include:
Overlea,
Austin, Texas - Opened May 1975 - 6 Associates - will be serviced by Georgetown, Texas store and Conroe, Texas store as needed
Nobers said the closings leave 84 Lumber with 281 stores in 35 states. He added that the company is reopening its
